The 997.2 platform is widely regarded as the best of the water-cooled chassis vehicles from Porsche. It was perfectly proportioned, bringing back the iconic round headlight design, and no longer used the IMS bearings that Porsche’s first generations of water-cooled engines had employed. Being a lightweight platform to begin with, the 997 had the perfect blend of modernity and classic design, just enough technology, and a simple screen with buttons and analog switch gear. With multiple models created between the 997.1 and .2 generations, Porsche sought out to create the absolute pinnacle in naturally aspirated driving and performance with the introduction of the GT3RS.
