The Carrera RS was built in accordance with FIA homologation rules, which required the construction of at least 500 examples so that Porsche could compete in the Group 4 class. With a success so immense, Porsche ended up producing almost triple of the initial 500 examples in both Touring and Lightweight specifications.
Brought to the world as the introduction of the RS moniker for Porsche, this is the beginning of the RS bloodline. The 1973 Carrera 2.7 RS was built to be homologated for racing purposes and had so much success that another three runs had to be put into production. Unveiling a unique ducktail spoiler increasing downforce, widened rear arches, an incredible 2.7 liter MFI engine and lightweight metal components throughout the body of the car, the 2.7 RS was a groundbreaking achievement for Porsche.
